After jackets and handbags, Printemps Haussmann, one of the big Paris department stores, looks at your feet. Pas à Pas ("step by step") fills 800 sq m under the Wybo dome, on the 6th floor of the women's store, and entry is free.
The route runs through eleven sections. You pass sky-high ankle boots by Jean Paul Gaultier, platform pumps by Vivienne Westwood and pieces from Alaïa, Balenciaga, Dior, Margiela, Louboutin and Roger Vivier, next to shoes lent by the Musée des Métiers de la Chaussure and the Belgian museum Shoes Or No Shoes.
One room, Résonance, lets you listen to footsteps, with sound pieces by composer Olivier Hazemann and foley artist Claire André. Another looks at the prints soles leave behind.
The last room shows ten loafers reworked by students from ESMOD, the Paris fashion school.
Walk through at your own pace with the free audio guide (scan the QR code at the entrance), or join a one-hour guided tour at the weekend, with sign-up. It closes on 28 October.
