Art Basel Paris returns to the Grand Palais for its fifth edition, the first under director Karim Crippa. More than 200 galleries from 41 countries set up under the glass roof, nearly 30 of them for the first time, and everything is there: painting, sculpture, video, photography, installations, digital art.
The public gets in from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October, 11am–7pm. You wander between white booths as light pours down from the nave, and each aisle swings you from a modern masterpiece to an artist nobody knows yet, in the Emergence sector.
Look out for a record 12 booths shared between galleries, and Oh La La!, the fair's signature rehang (a fresh rearrangement of the works on show), handed on Friday and Saturday to a guest from outside the art world. The public programme carries on outside, in Paris institutions, with Miu Miu as partner.
A day ticket costs €47, or €30 if you're a student or under 26, and €40 on Friday from 5pm to 7pm; under-12s with an adult go free. There's also a public vernissage (opening day) on Thursday 22 October, 2pm–8pm, with its own ticket. Metro Champs-Élysées-Clemenceau (lines 1, 13) or Franklin D. Roosevelt (lines 1, 9).
Tickets are sold online only, and each one is good for a single entry: no popping out and back in.
