Giant Wolfgang Tillmans print of a bunch of asparagus and blue ropes on the floor, Chantal Crousel gallery

Photo · Jiayun Deng / Galerie Chantal Crousel

A year ago, Wolfgang Tillmans closed his big exhibition at the Centre Pompidou. After a year as a visiting professor at the Beaux-Arts art school, the German photographer is back at Chantal Crousel, his Paris gallery, on rue Charlot in the Marais.

The common thread is the line. Some lines are drawn, placed to the millimetre; others emerge on their own from the photographed world. A bunch of asparagus printed very large, a beam of light in the dark, a body, a piece of clothing: Tillmans reads the world through its details.

In one room, huge blue ropes used to tow ships lie straight on the wooden floor, in loops with no beginning and no end. Further on, the Lighter pieces, sheets of photo paper folded then exposed to coloured light, treat the print as an object.

Free entry, Tuesday to Friday 10am–6pm, Saturday 11am–7pm; Metro Saint-Sébastien-Froissart or Filles du Calvaire. You have until Saturday 10 October.
