The Salon du Chocolat, Paris's big chocolate fair, is back at Porte de Versailles from 28 October to 1 November. Pavillon 5 (Hall 5), 250 stands, chocolate makers and pastry chefs from some thirty countries, and that smell of roasted cocoa that hits you as soon as you walk in.
The highlight is the musical show. Since the fair turned 30, its famous parade of chocolate dresses has become a musical: each costume is made by a chocolatier and a designer working in pairs. This year the show goes rock and burlesque, created with AICOM, the performing arts school.
Elsewhere, the Pastry Show puts top chefs on stage for live demos, Cake Time serves pastries from palace hotels (France's grandest), and the En Résidence space lets you watch makers working chocolate right before your eyes. On the origins side, producing countries tell the story of the bean, from pod to bar.
Tickets are for one day: €16 on weekdays, €20 at the weekend, €10 if you come between 5pm and 7pm. Take Metro line 12 or tram T2 or T3a to Porte de Versailles. And if you want to be first in, the opening night is on the evening of Tuesday 27 October.
