Barbara Kruger, Untitled (Remember me), 1988/2020 · Pinault Collection
Photography turns two hundred, and the Pinault Collection opens its boxes. From 7 October, the Bourse de Commerce (the round former commodities exchange near Les Halles, now a contemporary art museum) hangs around 700 works by more than 70 artists. It is the first time the collection's photography is shown as a whole.
The title comes from a work by Barbara Kruger: a black-and-white eye framed in red. She also has an installation in the Rotunda and in the museum's display cases.
Do not look for a timeline: the route is built like a fugue. You go from Le Gray to Tillmans, from Dorothea Lange to Nan Goldin, from Man Ray to Louise Lawler. Irving Penn, Lee Miller, Raymond Depardon, Richard Avedon, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Francesca Woodman are there too.
The show is curated by Matthieu Humery, the collection's photography adviser, with Lola Regard. The thread is memory: what a photograph keeps when everything else fades.
Tickets are €15, or €10 if you are 18 to 26. On the first Saturday of each month it is free from 5pm to 9pm. You have until 18 January.
