Every autumn, Belleville celebrates the Moon: this is the fête de la Lune, the Mid-Autumn Festival. This year it goes by the name Club Belleville Festival, and it leaves the boulevard to climb rue de Belleville, the street that straddles the 19th and 20th arrondissements.

On the programme: dragon and lion dances, concerts, street shows. The drums hit hard, and you can hear them from the upper floors.

All the way up the street runs a big market: steamed dumplings, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean or Thai street food to nibble as you walk, plus crafts, calligraphy and pieces made by artists.

It's organised by the Association des Commerçants Bellevillois, the local shopkeepers' association, the same team that runs Lunar New Year. Entry is free on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October, 11am–10pm.

Tip: start at Metro Belleville (lines 2, 11) at the bottom of the street and walk up to Pyrénées (line 11) at the top.
