1966 Kodachrome slide: four teenagers playing electric guitar in an American living room

Photo · The Anonymous Project

Lee Shulman bought a box of slides by chance in 2017. Nine years later, The Anonymous Project holds more than 800,000 pictures of strangers, nearly all on Kodachrome, with those saturated colours no filter quite manages to copy.

For Teenage Dream, he pulled out everything about American teenage life from the 1950s to the 70s, when the word "teenager" had only just been born. A band playing loud in the family living room, yellow jerseys after the game, graduation gowns, first proms, first kisses. Nothing is posed: these are photos taken by a dad, a friend or a sweetheart.

The pictures hang all over the barge, in several sizes, and students from ICART, a Paris arts school, add their take on what being 16 means today.

It's free and open Wednesday to Sunday from noon until late at night, so you can wander round with a drink from the bar, facing the Seine. The vernissage (opening night) is on 15 October from 6.30pm, and the show runs until 20 December.
