Mode Nippone: Le Bon Marché shows 223 pieces of Japanese fashion, then auctions them

Mode Nippone, an auction by Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche and the fashion auction house Penelope's Auction, takes place on Saturday 17 October 2026 at 3pm at 24 rue de Sèvres, in the 7th arrondissement. The pieces are on display in the department store in the days before, from Tuesday 13 October according to press reports. It closes Super Japon, the store's autumn theme.

The online catalogue lists 223 lots: dresses, coats and ensembles by Issey Miyake from the 1980s and 1990s, Pleats Please, Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garçons, a few accessories and photographs. Estimates start at €150 and go up to €3,000 for a 1996 Pleats Please dress.

You do not have to bid to come. The display is free to walk through, and the auction itself is free with registration, while places last. If something tempts you, you can raise a paddle in the room (ID and bank card required), bid online on Drouot or leave an absentee bid until 2pm on the day. Expect a 27% buyer's fee before tax on top of the hammer price.

The selection is by Pénélope Blanckaert, who ran the Hermès Vintage & Fashion Arts department at Artcurial before founding her own auction house in 2024.

The auction runs 3pm–6pm in the Penelope's Auction space on the 2nd floor. Take the Metro to Sèvres-Babylone (lines 10 and 12).
