The Salon de la Photo has a new name, Salon Photo & Vidéo, and an anniversary to celebrate: 200 years of photography. From 8 to 11 October, it takes over the Grande Halle de la Villette, with a programme that carries the French Ministry of Culture's official label.

The heart of the visit is 200 ans derrière l'objectif (200 years behind the lens): cameras from 1826 to today, on loan from the Musée Nicéphore Niépce, with a reproduction of the Point de vue du Gras, the very first known photograph. Right next to it, Marjolaine Vuarnesson makes wet-collodion portraits on glass plates in front of visitors. There's a full demo every day at 11am, and you can sit for your own (paid workshop).

Around it, eleven exhibitions: Nikos Aliagas's Messolonghi in black and white, Christophe Brachet's behind-the-scenes shots from film sets, Adrien Vautier's Ukraine in winter, the new film photographers of The Analog Chronicles and the winners of the Zooms. On level -1, the Théâtre Boris Vian hosts the Grandes Rencontres (headline talks), with guests like Alexandre Astier, and Nikos Aliagas on Sunday at 2.30pm.

It's open 10am–7pm, by Metro line 5 or tram T3b to Porte de Pantin. Buy your ticket online: it's €13 instead of €16 at the door, and the €9 reduced rate is only sold on site.
